4 Things to Love about the 2018 Acura TLX
With its new standard features and updated styling, the 2018 Acura TLX is one midsize sedan that’s hard not to love. The midcycle facelift transforms the TLX into a fresh, attractive vehicle with all the safety features you’ve come to expect from one of the world’s leading automakers. If you’re in the market for a new family sedan, don’t let this one pass you by!
Revised Front Styling
Previous TLX models were somewhat hurt by their parrot beak grille. Thankfully, Acura replaced this feature on the 2017 TLX, adding a fresh new face to the premium sedan. Now, with the 2018 model hitting dealer showrooms, the latest TLX looks better than ever.
The chrome-beaked front grille has been replaced with a genuine mesh grille and larger front end, improving the car’s overall aesthetics. The grille’s sides angle outward, while the horizontal edge is less sharp. Acura has even switched the front fenders and reshaped the rear bumper. The TLX still isn’t as sporty as other models, but given its new look, standard LED headlights, updated Acura emblem, and other subtle enhancements, the performance luxury sedan is really coming into its own.
Standard Safety and Entertainment Tech
With the 2018 model, the Acura TLX now comes with standard AcuraWatch active safety technology. The driver-assistance and safety suite features forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automated emergency braking, and lane-departure warning and mitigation. This safety suite is standard across the entire lineup, so you can enjoy it even on the TLX’s most affordable base model.
Acura also threw in a redesigned infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The infotainment interface features dual screens, a lower 7-inch display with capacitive-touch operation, and a 30 percent faster response time.
Powerful Engine Options
While the TLX’s fresh new face is making headlines, not much has changed under the hood — but that’s a good thing.
The 2018 Acura TLX is offered in two engine options as before: the base 2.4-liter four-cylinder or the upgraded 3.5-liter V6. The four-cylinder engine is paired with front-wheel drive and rated at 208 horsepower while the V6 boasts 290 horsepower and is offered in front- or all-wheel drive. These engines remain unchanged from the previous model.
Drivetrain aspects also remain unchanged. Drivers with the base engine will enjoy an eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission with Acura’s “Precision All-Wheel Steering.” The V6 enjoys the same capabilities, but with a nine-speed automatic and the option of Acura’s “Super Handling-All Wheel Drive” system. Combined, this technology delivers a livelier ride with more responsive handling dynamics.
One of the most noticeable things about the 2018 TLX’s interior is the new ambient lighting. LED lights illuminate 10 locations inside the cabin. In addition, the sedan also boasts heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a multicamera parking system, and power folding side mirrors. The cabin is more comfy and convenient than ever.
