A Look at the 2018 TLX Redesign
If you like the Acura TLX, you’ll be interested to know that 2018 will introduce a mid cycle redesign of this midsize sedan. In April 2017, the new design for the TLX was revealed at the New York Auto Show. It was the first chance for auto lovers to see the new design and find out what features and TLX interior upgrades will be included in the 2018 model.
New Model Trims
Along with the updated look, Acura is releasing a new package choice: the A-Spec. This trim includes a V6 engine standard with either the choice of the Precision All-Wheel Steer System (P-AWS) or the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive. The A-Spec will have a front fascia all its own in the lineup, 19-inch wheels with a dark finish, LED fog lights, and a shiny black spoiler.
The TLX interior now offers car buyers a choice of either red or black leather with microsuede for their Alcantera seats and door inserts. Drivers will grip a sport steering wheel and admire the brushed, aluminum-looking trim and red ambient lighting. Add to that a wireless charging pad and ventilated front seats inside the 2018 TLX. Don’t forget the suspension that is firmer and has stiffer springs along with the rear anti-roll bar that’s been retuned.
One of the biggest changes is the inside of the car. The dual-screen infotainment system is now 30 percent faster with an intuitive menu and a 7-inch screen. In addition, this will be the first Acura to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you choose the Technology package, you’ll get new seats that have a contrasting accent color.
The Advance package adds on a 360-degree camera along with a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats. It also includes a wireless charging pad, power-folding mirrors, trapezoidal LED fog lamps, white ambient lighting, and a decklid spoiler.
We’ve covered what’s new with the TLX interior, but what’s different about the outside of the car? First, start with the new grille. It’s five-sided and mimics the MDX crossover. In addition to the grille, new designs are found on the front fenders and bumper, and the hood. If you choose the V6 engine option, you’ll get a reshaped rear bumper as well as an integrated diffuser and rectangular exhaust finishers.
What’s Still Familiar
Though it’s fun to hear about all the new features, it’s also good to know what’s not changing. For one, the mechanics will be brought over from the 2017 model, bringing two engine options. The four-cylinder has an eight-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. The V6 has a nine-speed conventional auto box. Front-wheel drive includes P-AWS, which allows for greater agility because of its ability to adjust the angle of rear wheels independent of the other wheels.
The other important thing not changing is the standard inclusion of AcuraWatch. This suite of safety systems includes lane assist, adaptive cruise control, collision mitigation braking, and more.
The new 2018 Acura TLX will be available for purchase in June 2017. If you’re eyeballing this beauty, head out to your local Acura dealership once it’s available to see it in person.
