The Acura MDX: A Luxury SUV for the Modern Driver

The Acura MDX has long been a popular choice as a luxury SUV for everyone, offering a compelling blend of style, performance, and practicality.

If you’re considering buying an MDX, you’ll likely have some questions. We don’t want you driving into any unknowns, so here are just some of the most common questions we get at Mile High Acura, and we’ll share our experience about, the Acura MDX.

Is the Acura MDX Reliable?

No one really asks this outright, but because we know reliability is a top priority for most car buyers. So this is at the root of all your questions.

Because the anxiety of buying a new car can be so great for some people, we know what you want is something that will work, and work for a long time. U.S. News and World Report ranks the MDX as a solid 80 for reliability.

The MDX consistently scores well as a reliable ride year over year.

The Acura MDX generally enjoys strong reliability ratings from owners over the years, and just like any vehicle, regular maintenance is key to ensuring long-term reliability.

Acura MDX vs. RDX: What’s the Difference?

Coloradans come to us and compare to other vehicles on the road, but one of the top questions we get is how does it stack up to the RDX and what’s the difference.

When you find yourself comparing the MDX and RDX we’ll set it straight, and if you come in for a test drive, you can see the differences for yourself!

Now, while both are excellent SUVs, they cater to slightly different needs.

The most significant difference is size. The MDX is a three-row, mid-size SUV, offering more passenger and cargo space than the compact, two-row RDX.

The MDX also typically offers more powerful engine options and a more premium feel overall. The RDX, on the other hand, is more agile and fuel-efficient, making it a great choice for those who prioritize maneuverability and city driving.

And we’ll always talk you through what you’re looking for in your circumstance. Sometimes, the MDX will be the perfect vehicle for you, and that’s what we’re looking for. Not a car for anybody, but the car that speaks to your needs perfectly.

Does the Acura MDX Require Premium Gas?

We get this one all the time.

Many auto manufacturers are going to say that they recommend premium fuel for your vehicle, Acura is no different in this field. If your goal is to mix/max it and to achieve optimal performance and efficiency, yes you’re going to want the best fuel you can put into the tank.

While it is certainly possible to use regular unleaded fuel, the cheaper stuff, doing so consistently could potentially impact performance and long-term wear on the engine.

In the end, it’ll come down to your preferences, and your circumstances. Will the car drive, yes that dog will hunt on regular unleaded. Do we recommend it, of course we want your car to last as long as it can, so premium fuel will help that.

What Does MDX Stand for in Acura? And What About Other Acura Model Names?

“Multi-Dimensional” luxury is what MDX stands for in the Acura line up.

The letters in Acura model names don’t typically stand for specific words or phrases. They’re more of an alphanumeric designation system. .

Many auto manufacturers will end up having their own naming conventions that don’t follow a true name of the vehicle, but in this specific case, it’s a way to show off the luxury you can buy into.

Acura RDX or MDX: Which is Bigger?

As mentioned earlier, the MDX is larger than the RDX.

The MDX offers a third row of seating, while not always the most spacious of third row, it does make it ideal for families or those who frequently need to transport more passengers.

The RDX, which we will be expanding upon later, is a compact SUV. Ideally when I share the difference to someone in the market, they are looking to have more room for their families, or perhaps need more storage space to get bigger hauls of groceries home.

Since we’re comparing quickly, here’s the other things to consider about the MDX vs. the RDX:

  • more space
  • more powerful engine
  • more advanced technology

The MDX is probably a better purchase for families that are larger, or looking to be bigger in time, while I might steer someone to the RDX if they plan to have a smaller family.

Acura MDX: How Many Seats?

The Acura MDX typically offers seating for seven passengers across three rows.

That third row comes in handy when you need to cart around half the kids basketball team to a pizza party, or picking up kids then going to the grocery store.

Acura MDX: Where is it Made? Is it Made in the US?

For those buyers really trying to support local. Most cars aren’t made fully in the U.S. but Honda and Acura cars are manufactured in the U.S. with more and more of the electric components coming into the states then being put together here.

Acura cars are made in Honda plants, and currently there are two, one in Alabama and one in Ohio.

So if you want to support the good ol U.S. of A. you can by buying the Acura MDX as it is primarily manufactured in the United States.

The MDX: A Well-Rounded Luxury SUV

Look here, not all cars are right for your situation. And while we’ve been singing the MDX’s praises here today, it may not be the perfect car for your situation.

But for those of you that are looking for something reliable, has a bit of luxury, has space for the family and for friends the MDX is a popular choice.

The Acura MDX is an SUV with some flair, and I can’t wait to have you test drive one.

By understanding the key differences between different Acura models we hope here at Mile High Acura that you have a great experience purchasing your next vehicle, but you also walk away with the knowledge of why these vehicles stand out.

All we want is you to make an informed decision and choose the Acura, or whatever car you need, that best fits your lifestyle. Be sure to test drive the MDX and experience it for yourself!
